For those of you who live under rocks, tonight was the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympics in London. One part that I found interesting was a brief look at the evolution of British music from the 60s to the present. Of course they included The Beatles and the Rolling Stones and David Bowie, but their selection for the punk movement surprised me. I was expecting something by The Clash like London Calling or maybe Anarchy in the UK by the Sex Pistols, or something by The Damned, but they went with A Message to Rudy by The Specials. I find this particularly interesting because The Specials were part of the second wave of ska, also known as the two tone movement which blended danceable ska with punks energy and attitude. They were also very influential in easing racial tension in London in the late seventies. So here it is in it's entirety, A Message to Rudy by The Specials.
