a request

A friend of mine asked me why I haven't posted any Tom Waits. So here you go, my favorite Tom Waits song.

local act

Today's song is by a pretty awesome band from the town I live in. They moved away, sadly, earlier this year and aren't really performing that much anymore, but I had the privileged of seeing these guys multiple times and hanging out with them. It helps that I used to work with the bass player. If you ever get a chance to see them live, I highly recommend it. Here is The Uptown Bums with Throw Your Money Away.

Childhood memories

When I was in kindergarten, I had a friend that I did everything with. We were always spending the night at each others house and would stay up as late as we could. There was one song we would listen to non-stop, which I'm sure annoyed both of our parents. Every time I hear this song, I remember being a little kid and running around like an idiot.

I have to be at work in less than 6 hours, I don't know why I am not in bed right now. Tonight's song was the inspiration for the title of the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels. Hope you enjoy, it is a fantastic song.

lacking my joie de vivre

Continuing in the theme of Sad Bastard music, today's song is by the Decemberists.

A sharp suit and a kipper tie, A big arrow pointing to my fly

Today's song is by the amazing Belle and Sebastian. Yes they do sad bastard music (for you fans of High Fidelity out there) but this song absolutely cracks me up. And the music video makes it even funnier.

Under appreciated 80's music

Today's song is by a band I feel is greatly under appreciated when it comes to 80's music. Sure everyone has heard of Jenny (867-5309) and Come on Eileen, but how many people remember Wall of Voodoo.

Frank Turner

Just found out that Frank Turner is going to be in town soon so here is another of his great songs.

So, thanks to two overnight shifts this week, my sleep schedule is completely messed up. Ain't it great? I finally managed to fall asleep at 5 this morning, but woke up at 11 so I am just a little tired. Enough complaining, onto the music. The song I was going to post today (Punchdrunk by Bela Fleck) doesn't have a link on youtube so I'll just have to pick another song. This song is one that reminds me of family. When I was younger, anytime we had family in from out of town, we would go to an amazing bar-b-q place that had a jukebox, and one song my mother always played was London Homesick Blues by Gary P Nunn and  Jerry Jeff Walker. Every time I hear it, I think about amazing ribs and my grandparents. Hope you enjoy.

I've been working the overnight shift at work for the past two nights. While it has been a nice change of pace, it isn't something I would want to do all the time. For some reason I haven't slept more than 6 hours for the past couple of days (probably because I was trying to do it during the day time) so I am a bit of a zombie right now. Here is a song about what I plan on doing a lot of today, sleep.

I know I have been posting a lot of ska recently, but what can I say, I have been listening to a lot of it lately. Especially this band. Streetlight Manifesto does a great job blending the traditional ska sound with 20's jazz and traditional Eastern European/Russian music.
Had a great evening with amazing food and some wonderful people. Before going to bed, I thought I'd leave you with a pretty chill song from an amazing singer. Jay Clifford was formerly with Jump, Little Children and has been working on his solo career after they stopped touring. Enjoy.

The Fox Network

is a bunch of idiots. They apparently have a problem with letting good shows run for more than a season. Their most recent cancellation (at least the one I am aware of) was The Good Guys. Yeah, it is a buddy cop show but come on, it has Collin Hanks who looks and sounds like a younger version of his dad, and the dialogue is pretty great. Not only that, but the music used throughout the show is amazing. I've been watching it on Netflix and the more I watch, the more disappointed I am that it has been canceled. Here is the song used for the opening title.
