A little more hardcore for you. This time it is hardcore ska from the band Choking Victim, which later went on to change their name to Leftover Crack. Enjoy.

Today's song is by one of the few hardcore bands I actually like. They are truly independent, all of their material is distributed through their website and you can pay as much as you want for it. If you like this song I highly recommend checking them out.

George Harrison

I just found out that Martin Scorsese is doing a two part documentary on George Harrison this October. Everyone has a favorite Beatle and for me, it has always been George. Known as "The Quiet One," George definitely pushed the Beatles into a wider sound, evolving from the early pop sound to their more worldly later works. Since I'm a huge Beatles fan, here are some of George's songs.

This was the first song that George wrote for a Beatles album. Don't Bother Me on With The Beatles

My absolute favorite Beatles song. No matter what is going on in my life, it always puts a smile on my face.

I know it isn't a Beatles song but it is probably George's most famous.

Another late night at work means an early song for the day. I have a soft spot for pop punk love songs. They are straight forward and simple which I really like.

This is an absolutely beautiful song.

Since it has been a pretty relaxed day, I thought I'd share a pretty relaxed song.

Since I won't get off work until late tonight, I figure I'll go ahead and post. I saw this guy open up for Flogging Molly in February and he sounds like a cross between Bruce Springsteen and Joe Strummer. Plus, he is Swedish. Enjoy

Jump, Little Children

I tend to associate music with certain events or people. Either because I was listening to a song when something memorable happened or was with someone when I first listened to a song or because it was the person who introduced me to the band. This song is the first song by Jump, Little Children that got me interested in the band. It was my freshman year at college and a friend of mine invited me to go to a concert that night for a band I had never heard of. Of course I went along because I am always up for hearing new music. It was a great show (Matt Nathanson opened up) and I was enjoying Jump's set but about halfway through the show they played this song and I was hooked.

I was actually walking around work, singing this song today. Got me some strange looks.

Thursday, August 18, 2011

I picked today's song for a couple of reasons. One, I heard it at work which is amazing since the radio station is typically stuck on a 70's station and I mostly listen to disco. Another reason is I'm going drinking tonight to celebrate a friends birthday and this song is on my "Home late from the bars and listening to music" playlist. I pretty much have a playlist for all occasions. So without further delay, Fables by The Dodos

an experiment

So I've decided to try this out, a blog that sets a soundtrack to my life. I'll be messing with the format a bit, still trying to decide whether to do an update a day with one song or just once a week with a list of songs. I'll try to include links to the songs so that the few people that bother to read this will be able to listen. Also, should I explain why I picked a particular song or just let the song do the explaining? We'll see. I do promise that I won't have any long winded complaints about how tragic my life is (mainly because it isn't tragic). I plan on following the rules of making a mixtape by Nick Hornby in High Fidelity.

For today:

I picked this song mainly because it is one of the reasons I love music so much and why I decided to start doing this.
